About Me

Dr. Kirtika is a Senior lecturer and Head of Department of Immunology at the School of Medicine at the College of Heath Sciences. She earned her PhD from Moi University in 2009. She is involved in teaching, supervising and examining Immunology to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the various departments in School of Medicine, Dentistry, Public health and Nursing. The department of Immunology boast a MSc Immunology programme which is one of its own kind in the region attracting international students. Senate recently approved PhD in Immunology curriculum that she initiated. She has recently joined as faculty for teaching in the Clinical Pastoral Education programme at Moi University. She is also involved in teaching the HND Oncology programme at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

She is one of the two Allergist in the country and recently (2018) achieved a Masters degree in Allergy and Clinical Immunology from Imperial college London UK. She is a member of Kenya Society of Immunology and the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

She has supervised 20 masters students and 2 PhD students. She has 49 publications in refereed national and international journals. She has attended and had oral presentation and poster presentations at various national and international conferences.

She has previously attracted the 4th Annual General VC research funding (2006) to work on Esophageal cancer, which is one of the topmost non-HIV related cancer in men in the region. She also attracted funding from National Council Science Technology that guided the prognosis and treatment for women with Breast cancer. This initiated an Immunohistochemisrty diagnostic laboratory for various cancers at MTRH. She has attracted NIH funding for cancer diagnosis in children with Burkitts Lymphoma and Wilms tumor (kidney cancer). She recently got NIH funding for determination of HIV viral load using mobile phone technology.

She has collaborations with researchers from Nairobi University, KNH, Aga Khan University, Maseno University, Imperial College London, Purdue University, Indiana University, University of California San Francisco, Vanderbilt University, University of Sienna and University of Toronto.

She is the patron for Beyond Science Initiative Moi University chapter that comprises of students scholars and provides platform for outreach initiative that are social and scholarly in nature. She is also a board member in the education committee at the Sri Sanatan Dharma Sabha Hindu Temple. She is a member of Lions Club of Eldoret that has a mandate to serve the community around.
