Biography

Isabella Mulemia Cheloti-Mapelu is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Tourism, Hospitality, and Events Management at Moi University. She is an expert in the area of Hospitality Operations Management which mainly entails practical training and research in the area of Hotel and Hospitality Management. She has been doing this for the last sixteen (16) years. Additionally, she has participated in training workshops and seminars that relate to Hospitality Training, Packaging and Marketing the North Rift as a Tourist Destination and Creating Demand for Hotel Services in the North Rift Circuit. She has developed Nine (9) Policy documents within and without the University including one for Turkana County on “Feasibility Study Report for Labokat and Kataboi Eco-Lodges in Turkana County.”

She has successfully supervised three (3) PhD and fourteen (14) Masters theses. She has examined both Masters and PhD theses internally and is an external examiner in one (1) local University. She has authored two (2) books, one of which has been published while the other is in press. Additionally, she has authored eight (8) articles which have been published in refereed journals besides writing twenty one (21) conference papers. Besides teaching extensively across all programmes in the school, she has taken up responsibilities within the School which include being the Founding Chair of the School Graduate Studies Committee (SGSC) as well participating actively in the development and implementation of curricula for Undergraduate, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the area of Hospitality.

Administratively, within the University she has served as the Head of Department of Hotel and Hospitality Management. As Head of Department she made many accomplishments which include: overseeing the set up and implementation of the PhD program in Hospitality; Overseeing change in teaching of practical courses by introducing Practicum courses where all students in the program from first (1st)  to third (3rd) Year had an experience of working in the Guest House once a week. The Guest House being the teaching Lab for the department; Overseeing the smooth running of the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management Guest house as a Teaching Lab as well as an Income Generating Unit; Overseeing the review of the Masters Curriculum which had not been reviewed since inception and Organizing a workshop for all teaching staff in the department on coming up with Practical Teaching Manuals
