Biography


Mr. Titus Kiplimo Kosgei is a Kenyan, born in 1984, with a an M.Sc. in Plant Breeding and Genetics (2014) and a B.Sc. in Agriculture, Crop Science major (2008), both from University of Nairobi. He has worked at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), based in Nairobi, in a maize breeding intervention aimed at improving food security and livelihoods, through development of new maize varieties that use fertilizer more efficiently, to give high yields in poor soils and low fertilizer use systems, common in East and Southern Africa. He is currently a Tutorial fellow at the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Moi University, and also a PhD Fellow pursuing Plant breeding and Biotechnology at Makerere University, facilitated by the RUFORUM GTA program. His current research is focused on genetic dissection of mechansims of resistance to Striga hermontheca in maize and development of new maize varieties with resistance to striga for the small holder farmers in striga endemic regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. Titus is also involved in an intervention aimed at development of climate smart farmer solutions for improvement of small holder productivity using Artificial Inteligence, among other strategies, with Plant Village, Penn state University. 

Titus has been participated in fora, including Ruforum 5th African higher education week and RUFORUM biennial conference at Cape Town South Africa whose focus was on enhancing impact of research and Universities research capacities and presented a paper on “Use of GGE Biplot method to evaluate stability of performance on new drought tolerant maize hybrids for Eastern Africa”. Titus has also participated in the mentoring orientation workshop at Moi University, Eldoret, organized by AWARD.

Titus teaches Plant breeding, Agricultural biotechnology and Agronomy of major crops at Moi University.
