Prof Saul Sitati Namango is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Moi University where he teaches courses in Separation Processes, Environmental Engineering Principles and Design, Particle Technology, Material Science and Mass Transfer. Currently, he is the Director, Eldoret West Campus (the biggest of the 4 campuses of Moi University with a student population of 7524 as well as 300 lecturers and 136 non-academic staff). In this position, he is in charge of overall management and coordination of the academic and administrative activities at the University Campus, through personal leadership, strategic thinking, financial insights & public relations.

His research interest is in the areas of Environmental Pollution Engineering, Renewable Energy and Composite Materials. Prof. Namango speaks fluent English, Luhya, Kiswahili, Russian and German languages. Saul holds the following academic qualifications: Ph.D. In Chemical Engineering from Brandenburg Technical University (BTU Cottbus, Germany), MSc. Degree in Environmental and Resource Management from DaimlerChrysler Research Centre/BTU (Ulm, Germany), Postgraduate Diploma in Research from the University of Karlsruhe, (Karlsruhe, Germany) and an MSc. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Belarusian State Technical University (Minsk, Belarus). Besides, he has been involved in postgraduate research at the Institute of Composite Materials and Powder Technology of Moscow State University of Fine Chemical Technology (Russia).

He has wide experience in public and university administration and management, having risen to the current position of Campus Director from the following posts: Head, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Chairman, Departmental Postgraduate Board, Chairman, Departmental Curriculum Review Committee, Books and Equipment coordinator, Time-Tabling and Examinations Officer, Departmental laboratory Coordinator, Departmental Field Trips Coordinator, School of Engineering Senate Representative, Member of School of Engineering Anti-corruption Committee, Warden of Students‘ Hostels among others. Saul also currently serves as a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of Moi University Council Saul has previously worked as a research scientist at the Institute of Building Materials of the University of Karlsruhe, Germany (2001-2002), and also served as the programme coordinator of the DAAD-sponsored International Study Programme “Environmental and Resource Management” at the Brandenburg Technical University in Germany (2003-2005). At the DaimlerChrysler Research Centre, Germany, Prof Saul Namango researched on Recycling of Plastic Parts from Mercedes Benz End-of-Life Vehicles.

He has published widely, won several grants for research and supervised & supervises several postgraduate students’ projects. He is a peer reviewer for several refereed scientific journals including the South African Journal of Chemical Engineering, African Journal of Food Science, International Journal of Fisheries and Aquaculture and an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Petrochemical Science & Engineering. He also currently serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Commission for University Education (CUE), and as an external examiner for Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa), Kenyatta University, Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

He is a Graduate Member, Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and Registered Graduate Engineer (B2432), Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Saul has won, among other awards, a UNESCO fellowship of the International Institute for Sustainable Energy Development. Additionally, he earned a PhD. Scholarship from German Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Heinrich-Boell Foundation, MSc. Research Fellowship of the DaimlerChrysler AG, a Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and an undergraduate scholarship of the Kenya Government.
