Prof Wambua is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a Professor of Materials Engineering at Moi University. He currently is on leave of absence from Moi University after getting appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Institutional Advancement and Enterprise at Technical University of Kenya (TU-K). He previously served in a number of administrative positions: Head, Department of Manufacturing, Industrial and Textile Engineering and Dean, School of Engineering at Moi University, Deputy Principal (Academic Affairs) at Kirinyaga University College (currently Kirinyaga University) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology Management and Community Linkages at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.

In addition, He is a member of the Institute of Directors of Kenya and have served as Chairman, Institution of Engineers of Kenya, Western Branch. I have examined Masters and Doctoral Theses and have been an external examiner for local and foreign universities and a visiting Professor at Donghua University Graduate Summer School.
