Amb. Dr. Kurgat is a senior Lecturer in the department of History, Political Science and Public Administration - Moi University, Eldoret.Dr. Kurgat specialises on issues of African Conflicts and Conflict Resolution, Diplomacy and International Relations. He worked as Civil Registrar in the Office of the President from 19th August 1992 to 9th March 1993 and joined the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration (HP&PA), Moi University on the 10th of March 1993. He then served as Kenya’s Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation and also accredited to Republics of Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan from 2010 to 2015. He later on served as Commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from 18th January, 2017 to   16 April 2018 and on July 2018 and was posted Kenya High Commission, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in 2020 as High Commissioner/Deputy Head of Mission.

Amb. Kurgat holds a Doctorate in History from Moi University, Masters/ Undergraduate Degrees from the Institute of international relations, Kiev State University (renamed in 2002 to Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University), a diploma in Conflict and Conflict Resolution from Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden and another Diploma in Peace and Security from the same University. Amb. Kurgat is proficient in English, Kiswahili and Russian languages and working knowledge in German language. Dr. Kurgat has to his credit publications in refereed journals, books and books chapters.
