Shikuku was born in the year 1955 in Burundu Village, West Kabras, Malava Sub-county, Kakamega County, Kenya. Before training as a teacher he taught as a school board employee in Bukhakunga (1976) and Maturu (1978) secondary schools. After qualifying as agraduate teacher, was employed by the Teachers Service Commission and taught in High School (1981-1985) and also as ateacher trainer (1985 – 1987).

In 1987 he was employed in Moi University as a Tutorial Fellow and is currently a Senior lecturer of Educational Psychology in Moi University.

He is married with Five children
