Biography

Dr. Irene K. Marete is a senior lecturer at Moi University and a senior specialist in paediatrics and child health. She received
her MBchB degree from Moi University (Kenya) in 1999, Master of Medicine degree in Child health & Paediatrics from the
University of Nairobi (Kenya) in 2005, Master of Public Health degree from Moi University (Kenya) in 2015, and PhD degree
in Medical Parasitology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya) in 2015.
Dr. Marete worked at the then Iten District Hospital, (Iten County Referral Hospital), as a medical officer from January to May
2000. She later joined the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she rose to the position of a specialist paediatrician. She
joined Moi University in 2008 as a lecturer in the Department of Child health & Paediatrics.
She is an ardent advocate of health policies that protect, promote and improve child health. She also works with other
colleagues in research under the Global Health Network for Women’s and Children’s Health, among other research projects.
She is a registered medical practitioner with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, and a recognized medical
specialist in Paediatrics and Child health.
