Proficient health system and policy professional trained in social sciences, with post doctoral training and fellowships in health systems research and development. Over 20 years of extensive experience in research and teaching- particularly in leadership, management and governance; health systems research; monitoring and evaluation; capacity building and curriculum design.

Has valuable research experience leading numerous research projects, over 30 publications 23 in peer reviewed journals, 30 abstracts and 31 training manuals. Serves as deputy project leader and Co-PI on the 1st Moi University research chair project in Health Systems Research; collaborative grant establishing Centers of Research Excellence in Health System Strengthening; Co-PI on the Multi-country Cross Border Health Access project covering Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania; Principal Investigator (PI) of panel study investigating impacts of disease and treatment on household welfare in Kenya; impact of nutrition programme for AMPATH patients on ARVs; impact of HIV and AIDS on use of reproductive health services using Demographic and Health survey data; ability and willingness to pay for family planning services among others.

Research evidence that has influenced policy development, capacity building initiatives and interventions in health includes COBES project, where baseline information was used to establish VCTs at ten rural health centers in Western Kenya; evidence from capacity assessment of HIV and AIDS implementing agencies in Kenya (AMREF) used to establish grants management programme; evidence from survey used to re-design health system training manuals for County Health Management teams; designed curriculum and manuals on Monitoring and Evaluation of Pillar 1 (HIV and AIDS) under the Ministry of Health, a national and regional Health System Strengthening (HSS) course for senior health managers that mainstreamed leadership and management competencies in career development. Facilitated review and integration of leadership and management content into masters level curriculum in the schools of medicine at various universities; Chaired Senate committees that drafted the first Moi University HIV and AIDS Policy; Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Policy among others.

Demonstrated leadership and management experience as founder chair of the Social Science Research Network at Moi University, member of taskforce implementing the HIV and AIDS behavior survey in Institutions of Higher Education under the East African Lake Victoria Partnership and the Inter University Council of East Africa; Focal person, at the SPH for the Regional (EA) African Hub capacity building in Health Systems Research among others.

Reviewed for scientific journals and peer reviewer for Grand challenges Canada under the Canadian Institute of National Health Research; regional one-health project (ORIP); accredited health systems expert peer reviewer with Commission for University Education in Kenya; supervised over 45 Masters and 5 doctoral theses; served as external examiner for Makerere University, University of Western Cape, Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi, University of Machakos among others.
