Biography

Augustine Makokha is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Moi University. He holds a PhD and MSc (Engineering) with distinction from University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and B.Tech in Engineering from Moi University with First Class Honours. He has previously served as Head of Department of Energy Engineering at Moi University. Prof. Makokha has over 15 years of university experience in teaching, research and consultancy work, and has supervised and mentored 3 PhD and over 15 MSc students in Engineering. He has a passion for multidisciplinary research in Energy and Solid-Fluid Systems with inclination to renewable energy, energy systems modelling and optimization, Off-grid energy solutions, and energy & sustainable livelihoods. His research work is published in highly rated ISI indexed journals and widely cited. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-I for various research projects. Some of the projects in which he is currently involved include:
[1] Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) project, funded by DFID and Carbon Trust.
[2] World Bank funded Africa Centre of Excellence Project in Phytochemicals, Textiles and Renewable Energy
[3] Africa Development Bank (AfDB) funded project for training of MSc and PhD students in Energy and Applied Sciences
[4] Higher Education Partnership in Sub-Saharan Africa Project that is funded by GCRF through Royal Academy of Engineering in UK.
[5] Intra-Africa academic mobility project in Innovative Renewable Energy Technologies (MIRET) funded by EU -AU.

Prof Makokha has built collaborative research networks with Makerere University (Uganda), Technical University of Cologne (Germany), University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI). In the professional field, Prof Makokha is a registered Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya, a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and a Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP) by the Association of Energy Engineers in Atlanta in USA. He is also a member of the Association of Energy Professionals (AEPEA). As part of continuous professional development, Prof Makokha has attended various international conferences, workshops and specialized courses. He is also involved in development of professional short courses for capacity building in the energy sector.
