Dr okemwa is a dental surgeon with a special interest in dental public health as he  believes  that prevention is the only sure way of taking care of oral health problems in our country. He  played a crucial role in the founding of the school of Dentistry . He  Spearheaded the development of the plan for starting the School of Dentistry-Moi University and the development of the 1^st BDS curriculum.The pioneering role  also included Chairing the committee which planned and supervised the initial construction of the current building housing the School of Dentistry .

He has been been a  previous chair of department for over for  13 years .
