Dr. Joel Kipkorir Kirinyet is a Lecturer of Medical Parasitology and Entomology and Ag. Chair, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences. He holds both PhD and MSc degrees from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (2012 and 2007 respectively; BSc (honors) from Moi University (2003), Higher Diploma and Diploma from KMTC (1992 and 1989 respectively). Dr. Kirinyet joined the then Faculty of Health Sciences at Moi University as a Technician in 1990 and rose to become a Chief Technician in 1997 at the Department of Child Health and Paediatrics until 2014. In May 2014 he was redesignated to the position of Lecturer and posted to the Department of Microbiology & Parasitology. In January, 2020 he was appointed as a pioneering Acting Chair in the newly established department of Medical Laboratory Sciences where he doubles up as the BScMLS programme Leader at the School of Medicine. As a researcher, Dr. Joel Kirinyet has published three articles in peer-reviewed journals and one book “Malaria and HIV/AIDS: The Impact of Their co-infection, A Focus on sub-Saharan Africa (2013); Published by Utafiti Foundation, Zion Mall, Eldoret. website: www.utafitifoundation.com. As a Lecturer, Dr. Kirinyet has mentored and supervised several undergraduate and graduate students, one of whom graduated with an MSc in 2019 and three others are on-going at different levels in their research activities. He has also examined four graduate theses in the School of Public Health. Dr. Joel Kirinyet has actively participated in various institutional activities: Coordinator, BScMLS curriculum development; Chair, CHS and SoM Shows and Exhibitions Committee; MU Alumni representative for SoM (2010 – 2018); Deputy Chair, SoM Laboratory Division and Chair, Board of Management, Mogoma Secondary School, Bomet County (2015 – 2019). Dr. Joel Kirinyet is a member of the Association of Kenya Medical Laboratory Scientific Officers (AKMLSO) and registered as a practicing Clinical Laboratory Professional by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologist Board (KMLTTB). |
