Dorcas Lusweti is a lecturer in the School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies at the department of Biological Sciences. She is a Geneticist with a solid understanding of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the East African region having served in the State Department of Fisheries, Kenya, for over 25 years. She has eight years university teaching experience in genetics and related disciplines and has graduated students at both post and undergraduate levels.

Dorcas has vast experience in fisheries and aquaculture research and has carried out research on the genetic characterization on Nile perch of lakes Victoria and Turkana (Kenya), and Albert in Congo under the sponsorship of the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (LVEMP). Her research on the environmental degradation of the Lake Baringo ecosystem and its effect on this natural resource and livelihoods of the surrounding communities was funded by the National Research fund (NRF). Her most recent work was collaborative multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary research quantifying cyanobacteria microcystin in the Lake Victoria fishery funded by NRF.

Her international and national appointments include being Kenya's nominee, Kenya's national chairperson and the regional chairperson to the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation regional working group on aquatic biodiversity under the True Fish Project. 

She is a member of the Kenya Society of Agricultural professionals (KESAP) and the Sustainable Aquaculture Research Networks in Sub-Saharan (SARNISSA).
