Dr. Boiyo is a lecturer, academic researcher and a specialist in laser and fibre applications for optical fibre telecommunication systems and Sensors. He actively participates in research, publications and peer‑reviewing of journals in his area. He has collaborative research with the Centre of Broadband Communications at Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa and Optical Fibre Research Group of University of Eldoret. He is a member of the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP) and Physics Society of Kenya (PSK). He has 17 articles in peer-referred journals and 33 papers in conference Proceedings.

He is a member of the Board of Management (BOM) of Chemweisus Secondary School, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County.
