 WORK EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO JOINING MOI UNIVERSITY

 1)    2005- December, 2008- A part time lecturer (Curriculum Studies) at Moi University, School of Education in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media.

 

2)    September, 2002 – 23rd January, 2009: At Mosoriot Teachers’ Training College, Kenya in the departments of Education and Languages (English). I was employed by the Teachers’ Service Commission as a Senior Graduate Teacher- Job Group ‘M’. My responsibilities were: I was the Head of English Subject; a member of the College Examinations Board; and a Zonal supervisor for Teaching Practice. I taught English, Literature and Education (Professional courses).

 3)    October, 1996 to September, 2000: At Thitani Girls High School, Mwingi, Kenya.  Employed by the Teachers Service Commission as a Graduate Teacher. I was an English and Literature teacher. I also served as a class teacher.

 PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 1)    9th April, 2018 to Present: Chair, Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Educational Media (COD); School of Education; Moi University. My responsibilities as COD include:

a)     Management and coordination of all departmental activities;

b)    Strict control over human resource functions of the department;

c)      Offering acceptable levels of leadership in the department;

d)    Meeting the set performance contracting and quality criteria of Moi University;

e)     Represent the department at senate;

f)     Custodian of all university policies at the departmental level;

g)    A liaison person to the school management and board.

 2)    1st July, 2018 to 2021: A Peer Reviewer for the Commission for University Education. It’s a contract involving being engaged by CUE in reviewing programme development for universities in Kenya from time to time.

 3)    24th October, 2019 to present. A member of School of Education staff development committee.

 4)    2021 to date. A member of the School of Education shortlisting committee for staff appointments and position reviews.

5)    4th October, 2016 to December, 2017: Assistant School, Coordinator Eldoret West Campus. My responsibilities (As stated in my appointment letter) as the Assistant School, Coordinator included:

(a) Admission, registration and orientation of both undergraduate and post graduate students;

(b) Processing of examinations to ensure that complete marks are submitted by course lecturers on time;

(c) Overseeing students’ records and ensuring statistics on admissions are up to date;

(d) Liaising with Departments on matters of course allocations;

(e) Ensuring that service level agreements are signed and maintained at the campus.

 6)    9th June, 2015 to October, 2016: I was the School, Coordinator for Moi University,           Nakuru campus. My responsibilities as a coordinator included overseeing the teaching       and administration of exams; and overseeing students’ admissions.

 7)     9th October 2012 to October, 2016: I was a School Coordinator of Teaching Practice in charge of a teaching practice zone. My responsibilities included posting students to schools for Teaching Practice, assessment and professional guidance.

 8)     30th March 2010 to May 2015: I was the Departmental Examinations Officer, Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media, School of Education, Moi University. The responsibilities of examination coordination included overseeing the time tabling, setting, moderation, invigilation, marking of examinations as well as compiling of the examination results for all the courses in the department.

 1)    September, 2006 to December, 2009: Doctor of Philosophy Studies

At the Moi university - Kenya, in the School of Education, Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media. Pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum Development.  Wrote a thesis entitled “Teacher competences in the teaching of English oral communication skills in upper primary school in Nandi North district, Kenya”. Graduated on December 10th 2009.

 2)    September, 2000 to November, 2003: Master of Philosophy studies

At the Moi university - Kenya, in the School of Education. Pursued a Master of Philosophy degree in Curriculum Development.  Wrote a thesis entitled “The implementation of 8-4-4 English Secondary Schools’ Curriculum in Kitui District - Kenya” graduated on November 7th 2003.

 3)    1992 to 1996: Bachelor of Education studies

At the Moi university - Kenya, in the faculty of education. Pursued a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree specialising in English and Literature. Obtained a Second Class honours (Upper Division) degree.

At the Siakago Girls High school, Embu County in Kenya.  Did the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).  Obtained a mean grade of B- in the KCSE Examination.

  1. ATTRACTION OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FUNDS

 

  1. In the year 2021 – I gave expert guidance and participated in the development of the Phd programme in Educational Research and Evaluation. This is a programme funded by DAAD through the CERMESA project which has attracted admission of international PhD students funded through DAAD scholarship in Moi University.

 

  1. From the year 2015 to Present I am a faculty member of the East and Southern African-German Centre of Excellence for Educational Research Methodologies and Management (CERM-ESA). I participated in the training programme and curriculum development in the year 2015 and 2016. This programme attracted funding to Moi University and consequently Moi University was made a Centre for Excellence. Some Masters and Doctoral students were awarded scholarships on the same and I have served as a supervisor of some of the students in the programme.

 

  1. In July, 2014, I participated in the development of a proposal for the funding of Borderless Higher Education for refugees in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Educational Media, School of Education. This proposal won funding by the Canadian Government.
