Biography

Prof. Benson Gakinya is a lecturer and consultant psychiatrist at the Department of Mental health and behavioral sciences, School of Medicine. As a lecturer at the Department, He teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She has an interest in addiction medicine, Child psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. He has published on these areas of psychiatry.

Prof. is also the chairman of the school of medicine graduate studies committee and the representative to the Moi University board of graduate studies. He has taken these responsibilities for past six years during which time the graduate programs in the school have continued to grow from just a few to well over twenty by end of 2021.

As a consultant psychiatrist, he has been instrumental in establishing mental health services at AMPATH in MTRH and other sites. He continues to offer liaison psychiatry services at MTRH including running outpatient clinics and conducting ward rounds.
