Prof. Kosgey is a Professor of Animal Sciences (Animal Breeding and Genetics). He is a Kenyan citizen and currently the Vice-Chancellor Moi University (Eldoret, Kenya).
Isaac holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Animal Sciences and a Master of Science degree in Animal Sciences with Distinction from Wageningen University (Wageningen, The Netherlands), a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Production and a Diploma in Animal Husbandry with Distinction, both from Egerton University (Njoro, Kenya), a Diploma in Law with Distinction from Mt. Kenya University (Thika, Kenya) and a Master of Business Administration degree from Kenyatta University (Nairobi, Kenya).
He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) at The Open University of Tanzania (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania). Isaac has wide experience in public and university administration and management, having risen to the current position from the post of Departmental Time-Tabling Officer and Examinations Officer (2004-2005), Chairman of the Department of Animal Sciences (October 24, 2005-September 10, 2006) and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture (September 11, 2006-September 10, 2010) at Egerton University, Deputy Principal (Administration, Planning and Development) at Laikipia University College of Egerton University (October 3, 2011-February 20, 2013), Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Development) (February 21, 2013-June 17, 2013) and Acting Dean, Institute of Arid Lands Management (May 9, 2012 - October 23, 2014) both at Laikipia University, and an Associate Professor of Animal Sciences, specializing in animal breeding and genetics at Egerton University (May 1, 2010 - October 22, 2014).
He lectures in the Institute of Arid Lands Management, and has served and continues to serve in several University Committees, including being a member of the 1st Laikipia University International Conference Organizing Committee and member of the Laikipia University Publications Committee (2012), and Chairman of the 2012 and 2014 LU Annual Marathon Organizing Committee. Currently at LU, Isaac is the Chairman of the Universitys Tender Board, Management Representative for Laikipia University Quality Management Systems based on ISO 9001:2008, an Associate Editor of Laikipia University Journal of Science & Applied Technology, and Chairman of the 3rd Laikipia University International Conference Organizing Committee.
He is a member and Chairman of the National Advisory Committee on Animal Genetic Resources, Chairman of the Egerton University Alumni Association and an External Examiner with Bukura Agricultural College (Bukura, Kenya).
Previously he served as a member of several Committees at Egerton University, the Vice-Chairman of the Egerton University Alumni Association, an External Examiner with the University of Nairobi, National Chairman of the Animal Production Society of Kenya (APSK), the National Organizing and Publicity Secretary of the APSK and the Country Representative of the APSK to the World Association for Animal Production, Member of the Regional Project by Commission for Higher Education/ Inter-University Council for East Africa on Quality Assurance in University Education for East Africa, and Member (and Chairman of the Agriculture Group) of the Regional Project by Commission for Higher Education/ Inter-University Council for East Africa on Credit Accumulation and Transfer System for East Africa. Isaac has been a Visiting Scientist at The University of New England (Armidale, NSW, Australia), Visiting Scholar at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden) and a Visiting Professor at the Food Security Center & the Institute of Animal Breeding and Husbandry in the Tropics and Sub-Tropics at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany). On occasions, he has been invited to give lectures in Brazil and Germany.
He has (co) published widely, won several grants for research and supervised/ supervises several post-graduate (M.Sc and Ph.D) students. Isaac is a peer reviewer for several refereed scientific journals like; International Journal of Livestock Production, Livestock Science, African Journal of Biotechnology, Journal of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Egerton University Journal Science and Technology Series, Laikipia University Journal of Science and Applied Technology, Livestock Research for Rural Development, Tropical Animal Health and Production, Small Ruminant Research and Animal Production Science.
He is dynamic, innovative, resilient and result-oriented, with great ability to interact effectively, organize, motivate, support and offer strong leadership to a team. Isaac is a good negotiator and widely travelled, and can work effectively with individuals from different academic and cultural backgrounds, and organizations from the public, private and civil society. He can communicate well in the English language both orally and in written. Isaac is a strong believer that the best way to help developing countries to change is to develop a well-informed, educated and motivated population that can help drive the changes desired to effectively transform society.
