Research Interests

Dr. Menya’s research interests are in non-communicable disease (NCD) and communicable diseases. My NCD research has focused on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma which has a high incidence in both men and women in western Kenya.  Currently she is the Principal Investigator in a large NIH/NCI funded study in esophageal cancer in collaboration with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). She is also the Eldoret site coordinator for the Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Africa Prevention Research (ESCCAPE), working with Tanzania and Malawi.

She has been conducting malaria research continuously now for 10 years

And is a founding member of Exact Dx, a malaria research group in collaboration with Duke university that conducts research mainly in Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia, Homa Bay and Turkana Counties with a large research team which has published widely.

She is the Kenyan PI for the Global Health Research Group on Clean Energy Access for the prevention of Non-communicable disease through clean Air in Africa: CLEAN-AIR(Africa). The main aim is to conduct a programme of research and health systems capacity building in Kenya to support adoption and sustained use of clean fuel to address the health and environmental impacts of household air pollution from reliance on solid fuels and kerosene for household energy. It is a collaborative project between Moi University, the Universities of Ghana, Cameroon and Liverpool
